Tongue and Lip Tie Correction

What is it?

Lip-tie and tongue-tie (also known as ankyloglossia) is a congenital condition affecting an estimated 4% to 10% of infants. One of the earliest signs of this condition is problems with breastfeeding such as:

  • inability or difficulty latching
  • painful breastfeeding for the mother
  • inadequate weight gain for the infant

As a child gets older, tongue- or lip-tie can affect speech, oral hygiene, and even social development. Traditional surgical treatment can be painful and take time to heal.

State-of-the-Art Solutions in a modern, comfortable setting.

At Norwalk Dental Associates, our pediatric specialists use the LightScalpel laser as an alternative to traditional surgery, which offers substantial benefits including:

  • less pain
  • no bleeding
  • faster healing

Our treatment is administered right in the chair at our beautiful facilities, and the infant can breastfeed immediately after the procedure.

Dr. Laura Huling, one of our pediatric specialists who performs this procedure, recently appeared on WTNH’s CT Style program to discuss its advantages.
